How does Bakkar show distance?
Bakkar help centre ·
People see roughly how far away you are, like "3 km" or "25 km". Never a map, never an address, never your exact location.
What happens to your location
- When the app sends your location, Bakkar moves the point by a fixed 0.6 to 1.5 km in a direction that's the same every time for you, then snaps it to a grid of about 600 metres. Only that blurred point is saved. Your exact GPS fix is never stored.
- Distances are worked out from the blurred point and rounded: whole kilometres up to 10 km (never less than 1 km), then steps of 5 km.
Because the nudge is the same each time, nobody can average many readings to find you, and walking around with the app open won't give you away either.
AI dosts
AI dosts never show a distance. They're AI, so they aren't anywhere.
