Sextortion After a Video Call: What to Do Right Now

If someone is threatening to share a video or photos of you unless you pay: you are not the one who did something wrong, and you are not alone. This is a crime called sextortion, and it follows a script.
How it happens
- A friendly or flirty chat with someone you just met, often a very attractive profile.
- A sudden video call, sometimes with a pre-recorded clip playing on their side, pushing you to undress or do something on camera.
- Minutes later: a screen recording, a threat to send it to your family or contacts, and a demand for money.
Why paying makes it worse
Payment proves you'll pay. The demands come back, bigger. People who pay once are usually asked again within days. The recording is the scammer's only leverage, and most of them move on to easier targets when they get nothing.
What Bakkar does, and what it can't
Bakkar has no video calls, and a new person can't send you photos or voice notes until you reply, so this script can't start inside a Bakkar chat. It can start anywhere you take a conversation next. Be most careful the moment someone you barely know wants to move to a video call on another app.
What to do
- Stop replying. You don't owe a scammer an explanation.
- Don't pay. Paying once never ends it; it tells them you will pay again.
- Save the evidence before you block: screenshots of the profile, the chat, any numbers, UPI IDs or links they sent.
- Report and block them on Bakkar from the chat or their profile. See what happens when you report.
- Lost money? Call 1930 at once. The national cybercrime helpline can ask banks to freeze the money while it is still moving, so the first hours matter. Then file the complaint at cybercrime.gov.in.

On the reporting portal, complaints involving obscene or sexual material can be filed too. You can also ask the platform where the video was shared to take it down.
